Angela Godoy is a fine art painter based in Hartford. She was born into a bilingual home of a recently immigrated couple from Argentina. Godoy struggled with learning English before assimilating with the American school system. The little English she did know was learned through American tv sitcoms and cartoons, often by mimicking the characters on screen. Godoy graduated from the Hartford Art School in 2015 with a Bachelors of Arts in Painting and Drawing. She is currently working from her studio in Bristol, CT, where she continues to work on commissions and pieces for upcoming exhibitions. If you are interested in seeing more of her work on display, or for information regarding commissions please email firstname.lastname@example.org
I work mostly with oil paint, I also offer wall murals in acrylic, and drawings in pencil, charcoal or ink.
My Mask series was born from my interest in human interactions. My paintings focus on the concept of identity and how it is performed. I chose to take on a more literal sense, through masks and costume. I am interested in how people choose to communicate and express themselves and how one alters oneself according to their surroundings. I enjoy watching people interact, sometimes it can feel like they are performing on television or in a play. I have learned to see the similarities between people’s efforts to be a social person and my own experiences in assimilating with English-speaking culture.
